A skip permit, also known as a skip licence, is permission from your local council to place a skip on a public highway.
If you need to place a hired skip on the roadside because you don’t have any suitable private land to place it on, you’ll usually need to get a skip permit in advance. Luckily, at No. 1 Junk Street we’re on hand to help.
How to get a skip permit
We make acquiring a skip permit easy. We’ll tell you how much it will cost, the skip permit period and when the license will be issued.
Once you’re all paid up, we’ll process your skip permit application, taking the hassle out of applying and giving you peace of mind.
How much does a skip permit cost?
Again it depends on location, so check your borough’s website and just search for ‘skip’ or ‘skip permit’ to find out the current skip permit cost in your area.
Take note of the limitations that apply to your skip licence e.g. does it expire after seven days, 14 days etc?
If you need your skip to remain in place for longer, you may need to apply to extend your skip permit, or you might need to apply for an entirely separate skip licence for each 7-day or 14-day period – and pay the full application fee each time.
How to keep skip permit costs down
If you’re worried about the skip permit cost in your area, first try to find some private property where your skip can be delivered, as there’s usually no need for a skip licence on private premises.
If you do not have access to private land, make sure you’re ready to fill your skip when it arrives, so it can be collected within a single skip permit period.
That means you avoid any extension fees, subsequent re-application fees or penalties for overrunning your deadline.
Make sure you read ALL of the terms and conditions provided by your local council when applying for a skip permit, as well as the rules and T&Cs of your skip hire provider, so you don’t incur any other penalties along the way.
